FAQ

I have never tried aerial before, can I still take classes?
Absolutely! We all start somewhere, and complete beginners will feel comfortable in our “Level 1/Foundations” classes. No strength or flexibility requirements needed. In Level 1 classes, we will work on Level 1 skills at a slow pace and stay low to the ground. If you are a Durango local, your first Level 1 class is FREE (email sanjuancircus@gmail.com for coupon code). Aerial yoga classes are also a great place to start for total beginners.

Is there a weight limit?
No, our aerial apparatuses and rigging can support thousands of pounds! Sometimes we have several humans hanging on the same apparatus!
-
I have no upper body strength or flexibility. Can I still try aerial?
Aerial is the best way for you to gain upper body strength and flexibility! You can absolutely learn many things that don't require upper body strength or the ability to climb.
-
I’m afraid of heights/falling/spinning/bruises. Can I still try aerial?
Of course! You will never be forced to go up high, spin, or do anything you aren’t comfortable doing. At the end of the day, we are all doing aerial for different reasons. Your aerial journey is different than anyone else’s. We have plenty of students who never spin, or never go high up in the air, and there are still plenty of cool tricks you can learn staying 1 foot off the ground not spinning!
However, fear of heights/pain tolerance/spin tolerance all get easier with practice. Over time, you may find yourself being braver than you used to be.
-
Why is aerial so expensive?
High insurance rates & studio rental costs, highly specialized training, and expensive equipment are the main reasons for the higher price of aerial compared to other sports. Most aerial classes in the US will run about $25-$50 per class. Punch passes and unlimited memberships save money.
-
Can I get silks at home?
Students who practice aerial at home usually spend some portion of class time unlearning bad habits or unsafe techniques. Until you have mastered Levels 1-3, we do NOT recommend practicing aerial without a coach present.
Please read this guide if you are interested in rigging at home.
-
Can I be a performer?
Anyone can become a performer! We have student showcases that even beginners can participate in.
For professional shows/paid gigs, we hire performers/advanced students based on consistent good habits & body awareness in the air, as well as excellent technique. This is for safety reasons. Students who have bad habits in the air (history of falling, getting tangled frequently, needing safety reminders while up in the air) or students who rarely come to class, are much less likely to be invited to perform at a paid gig or show.
Our coaches can help you reach a professional level if you are a dedicated student! Until then, student showcases are a great way to gain performance experience for the future.
-

Do you do private training?
